Clerk of Superior Court
The Clerk of Superior Court is an elected official responsible for performing several roles regarding the local administration of justice. The Clerk is elected in a partisan election for a four-year term and must be a resident of the county in which he/she is elected.
The Clerk’s office is a branch of State government. It is responsible for all administrative, clerical, and record-keeping functions of the District and Superior court. In addition, the Clerk receives and disburses money collected each year from court fees and fines.
Responsibilities of the Clerk of Superior Court
Provides administrative support for the 1st Judicial Courts
Maintains civil and criminal records of the court
Collects and disburses court-related monies
Maintains records of bond issues
Maintains records of divorce proceedings, juvenile and domestic relations, adoptions, and custody matters
Provides support for family members and attorneys in handling estates
Appoints and supervises guardians for minor children and adults in need
Invests funds for minors from wrongful death settlements/personal injury suits
Issues foreclosure orders
Handles passport applications
